the 6 hour boston cream pie

When my parents took Bri out for her birthday breakfast my dad asked Brianna if she would make him a Boston Cream Pie for Thanksgiving. Having never had one before, she thought it must be like a chocolate cream pie- and who can't make one of those?! So she said yes. Well, when she saw the recipe she was quite intimidated. But, being "Julia Child" at heart, she decided to go for it! Although the recipe said that the cake was best eaten the day it was made, in her wisdom she chose to make it the day before. Good thing! She started at 1:00 on Wednesday and finished at 7:00! No shortcuts for her. The filling, cake and glaze were all made from scratch. And I do mean SCRATCH! And being a true gourmet, she followed the recpie to the "T". If it said the eggs needed to be at room temperature, they were. The egg whites were beaten to stiff peaks, the milk heated to just the right temperature, the heavy cream slowly poured over the baking chocolate. Wow, I was impressed! The top pic is, of course, the master piece. The bottom shows my dad's dessert plate. You'll notice that along with the Boston Cream he tried just about every other kind of pie. Bri made a pumpkin pie and chocolate cream pie as well. She'll make some guy very lucky some day...when she's 30!!

Kudos to an amazing looking pie ... and, it speaks of her character. So many would have been willing to take the easy way and just find one already made, or might have said "I can't" or "I don't know how". She is quite the girl! Hmmm ... what other posts can I make requests for?!

We also love BCP! I can practically taste it from here. I should send you a recipe --- probably not as authentic but at least it takes a bit less time. Good for you for doing it all from scratch. Just the way your crazy old aunt would do it..... sorta
