I was, for some reason, really looking forward to our school week starting today. I had put a lot of work into the assignments and had read a book on certain learning styles that made me anxious to put into practice what I learned.
I feel so much weight of responsibility in the training and teaching of our kids. I am so so grateful for a husband who willingly and effectively shares the load with me. Although I do almost all the teaching of school and research on curriculum, scheduling, learning styles etc, Matt listens to all I have to say about it and offers advice and suggestions. He even manages to do that without making me feel incompetent :) He also makes a most intimidating, if need be, head master keeping the kids in line if ever that needs to happen! I appreciate knowing that I'm not alone in this endeavor. (It's amazing how one's schoolwork suddenly improves with the knowledge that it is going to be checked by dad!) Also, being sent to the "principal's office" doesn't just happen in "normal" school....
I love Doorpost's materials (http://www.doorposts.com/) to help in character training. I use their resources as an integral part of our schooling. Matt and I both believe that training our children to love God, study his Word, learn self-control, to be good leaders, to learn how to be respectful, hospitable, courageous, honest, loving, and more is JUST as (if not more) important as learning how to diagram sentences, solve for the unknown, learn when Columbus discovered America etc. Both are important, but some things are temporal and some are eternal. I don't want to teach one without the other!
Anyway, today has been a good day and I've enjoyed every minute of teaching my children today and I thank God for the opportunity I have to do that.
Poor little Leah is sick. She has a miserable cold complete with runny nose, teary eyes and a cough. We're praying for a quick recovery and that it doesn't settle in her chest or lungs.
