making laundry soap

I had a friend down here give me the recipe (and the ingredients) for laundry soap.
She told me the cost for doing it yourself is approximately $3.00 for 5 gallons. What a savings! So, I figured I'd give it a go :)

First I grated a bar of fels-naptha into a pot. (The most time consuming part.)

I added some Borax and some washing soda.

I poured 1 gallon of water into that and cooked on the stove until all the soap melted.
I poured 2 gallons of hot water into a 5 gallon bucket and then poured the mixture from the pan. And stirred.

I added 2 more gallons of water to that and... voila!... laundry soap to last me a long time.

OK, so the Duggars (18 Kids and Counting) made their own laundry soap on one episode and they used some kind of grater that you turned with your hand ... it looked a lot easier. I am impressed that you made your own. Let us know how many loads of laundry you get with that recipe.
