bags of hope

This is Cameron's story.  Cameron has a heart for homeless people or people who are less fortunate than us.  There is a particular place that we pass on a consistent basis where it is common to see a homeless or jobless person holding a sign and asking for help.  Cameron told me that he always wants to look away as we pass them, avoid any eye contact because he feels so bad that he can't help them.  He wanted to do something.  So, he came up with "Bags of Hope".   Not knowing what the real story is of the people who are asking for help, we would not give money.  Also, no matter what their story, they need hope.  They need Jesus.  On our limited budget, we put together a half a dozen of these bags that have some food, a drink, and a tract in them. The tract has our church name and address on the back.  I gave out one Bag of Hope at our local Walmart and Matt was able to give one to a homeless person he saw after he took a wrong turn on Sunday going to a CEF event.  (Made Matt wonder if his "wrong" turn really was wrong after all!)  We would eventually like to include a New Testament or Gospel of John in the bags.  We have two bags in the car and two in the van right now and the kids are now all on the lookout for someone to give one to.  We are praying too for the people who received one so far- who knows what God might do in their life!  This has made Cameron feel like he has a way to show he cares and also to be able to share about true Hope.

This is fantastic! We can't do everything, but we can each do something! You may want to check out the booklet "The Essential Jesus" - it's the Gospel of Luke(written in laymans language) with an intro at the beginning to explain the big picture of the Bible, and a conclusion at the end to recap the Gospel message. POWERFUL!!
