soccer

Last night we went to our "regular" park to play some soccer. Apparently it won't be a "regular" anymore since all the fields were filled with some sort of sport practice. So, we went to the Y and out back discovered a really nice, private and beautiful soccer field! We had it all to ourselves. As I was watching Matt and the 5 kids play, I thought of the verses in Psalm 127 that say:
Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one's youth.
How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;

Matt was so obviously enjoying himself and I couldn't help but think of how blessed he is with our children. They are truly "like arrows in the hand of a warrior."
It has taken us 13 years to get to a point where we have a soccer team and where everyone enjoys playing together. But boy has it been worth the wait! Pictures don't do the feeling justice. (At one point a man came over and was watching the game. I didn't pay much attention to him until Cameron scored a goal and the guy cheered! It was funny... ) Anyway, I loved the view I got from the trail above the field. It was getting dark and the camera batteries were dying so it's not the best picture, but it made my heart so happy :)
Last weekend our GPS was stolen. We realized it when I got in the car to take Alissa to a dr. appointment at a place I'd never been before. GONE. Stand, cord and unit. It was very discouraging. Well, when I called home after Alissa's appointment, Cameron answered the phone. He told me that dad wasn't upset anymore. He said that he realized that God is sovereign over all of that and that although God didn't cause it to be stolen, he allowed it and we can totally trust Him. Cameron told me that Matt said that the enemy was trying to get us down and make us quit what we know God wants us to do. He said that we will not give in to him!
It's not just Matt who is blessed to have a "quiver full" of children, but our kids are blessed to have Matt for a dad. He takes real life experiences- good and bad- to teach the kids how to live. How to live victoriously and have joy in spite of our circumstances. And since Cameron repeated to me what Matt had said, I knew he got it.
So now I can say, it's not just Matt, or just the kids who are blessed. I am too! Abundantly!

Soccer, Football, Baseball and Basketball am I missing any of the major sports that you guys play? I loved the Chess pictures and great job that you could testify to our Lord Jesus Christ the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Since Chess is such a logical game that has clearly defined roles and moves for each piece. Just like the Creation that our Lord made, since you were already testifing about our Lord you mind as well win first place while you were there!!!!

I love reading your blog-it is so positive and uplifiting! We love the passage you mentioned ...just wanted to share one of our favorites. These verses are always an encouragement to Steve as he strives to be this kind of man. He has them up in his office as a reminder.
Psalm 128 1-4 (NIRV)

1 Blessed are all those who have respect for the Lord. They live as he wants them to live.
2 Your work will give you what you need. Blessings and good things will come to you.
3 As a vine bears a lot of fruit,
so your wife will have many children by you. They will sit around your table like young olive trees.
4 Only a man who has respect for the Lord will be blessed like that.

God Bless you and your beautiful family!
