uh-oh

I've been reading in Philippians and today read the verse in chapter 2 verse 14 that says, "Do all things without grumbling or disputing." Unfortunately I looked up the words "grumbling" and "disputing" in the original Greek. That's where this post gets it's title.
a murmur, murmuring, muttering a) a secret debate,b) a secret displeasure not openly avowed
AND
the thinking of a man deliberating with himself,a) a thought, inward reasoning,b) purpose, design,2) a deliberating, questioning about what is true,a) hesitation, doubting,b) disputing, arguing
I guess what it is saying is that I'm not supposed to even THINK in a way that is grumbling or disputing. It's more than just having my words under control, I have to control my THOUGHTS!
WHY? And why the picture of my dad? Well, the next verse says that in doing that, we will prove ourselves to be blameless and innocent...above reproach... in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation..."among whom you appear as lights in the world." What I think that is saying is that if my thoughts are without grumbling or complaining, than even my actions will be different and I will stand out as different. So, the reason my dad is in this post is because that's what he has been saying for a long time: your thoughts affect how you feel and how you feel affects how you act!

I am praying that today my thoughts are not self-centered and grumbly and that even my family will see a difference in how I act today!
